Minister Marais congratulates Drakenstein municipality on the launch of its community safety forum
Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais has congratulated the Drakenstein Municipality on the official launch of its Community Safety Forum (CSF). This is a milestone towards building safer, more resilient communities through collaboration and innovation.
Minister Marais welcomed this initiative that brings together a wide range of stakeholders to strengthen safety interventions and crime prevention in the Drakenstein region. The Drakenstein CSF marks a significant shift towards an integrated model of law enforcement and public safety coordination. It unites key role players, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Correctional Services, municipal law enforcement, fire and rescue services, private security companies, community police forums (CPFs), neighbourhood watch structures (NHWs), and civil society organisations.
Minister Marais said, “The idea behind CSFs is clear: when we work together, when we talk to each other, and when we plan together, we get better results, especially when it comes to safety and crime prevention in our communities”.
The CSF will serve as structure that brings together resources and where government departments and other stakeholders can align strategies, share critical information, and plan in a more inclusive and coordinated manner.
“We know that crime is complex and, therefore, there are no quick fixes or simple solutions. That is why the CSF is built as a coordinating platform to help bring it all together. It is about making sure that the right people are around the same table, supporting each other and planning side by side, “Minister Marais added.
“Community safety extends beyond policing and law enforcement. It includes addressing social development, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic opportunities,” Minister Marais concluded.
